Ex-Ghanaian footballer, Charles Taylor has opined that Black Stars defender John Boye was better than Antonio Rüdiger of Chelsea.
According to him, John Boye had all the qualifies of a centre-back: height, ball control, passing, intercepting and agility.
Speaking on Angel FM today, Charles Taylor who has played for Hearts and Kotoko asserted that the only reason Ghanaians do not place value on their players is they find those who ply their trade abroad superior.
He maintained that John Boye in his prime was a better defender than Antonio Rüdiger. Charles Taylor intimated that the only reason John Boye was seen as inferior was that he was chastised and brutally criticized for the least mistake.
“Ghana doesn’t encourage players unless they’re on top. One bad game and you’ve thrown away. To me, prime John Boye was better than Rüdiger but see how we always roasted John Boye for mistakes Rudiger makes too,” he said
Antonio Rüdiger is a German professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Premier League club Chelsea and the Germany national team. Rüdiger began his career at VfB Stuttgart, representing their reserves in 3. Liga and the first team in the Bundesliga.

On 31 August 2021, Boye joined Al-Fayha on a one-year contract
On 17 June 2008, Boye was called up for Ghana, making his debut on 22 June 2008 against Gabon.
