The former Chief of Staff under the erstwhile John Kufuor administration, Kwadwo Mpiani, is heartbroken about the current state of Jubilee Parks across the country.

He bemoaned how city authorities had left such flagship projects to mark Ghana’s 50thindependence anniversary to rot.

“Public servants in charge of these facilities must be punished for allowing the parks to deteriorate,” the former Chief of Staff fumed.

“Anytime I see these projects, I get heartbroken because it is tax payers’ monies which are going waste,” he added in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Thursday.

The over GH¢16.8 million Golden Jubilee Parks, built in the 10 regions of the country, have been left to rot.

Adom FM’s correspondents in Northern, Bono, Central and Ashanti regions reported that, the Jubilee Parks in the regions had been taken over by lunatics, weeds and stray animals.

When Adomonline.com broke the news, managements of the various Metropolitan and District Assemblies quickly reacted and assured that they were raising funds to renovate the facilities.

But, Mr Mpiani said those in charge must be surcharged for allowing tax payers’ monies go down the drain.

He said the lackadaisical attitude of some public servants, if not checked, would lead to a total collapse of the State.

Mr Mpiani appealed to the government to commit funds to renovate the Jubilee Parks to serve as memorial sites.
