Meet Georges Mfegue; Kotoko’s new 24-year-old Cameroonian striker

Georges Rodrigue Mfegue Omgba, a Cameroonian international, has emerged as one of two late striker signings made by Asante Kotoko ahead of the 2021/22 season.

While parting ways with a number of players and adding a number of young and experienced players, the Porcupine Warriors have struggled to address a major issue for their team in the previous season – acquiring the services of a proven scorer or two in the transfer market.

Following a failed attempt to sign WAFA SC’s second-round sensation Justus Torsutsey last season, the Porcupine Warriors cast their net wide to other African countries.

Kotoko rekindled their interest in Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala, who had been a target for them last season but were unable to sign him.

Despite publicly declaring that he had sealed his personal terms and was eager to join the team at their Dubai training camp after completing his national team duties this week, Kotoko was unable to meet the demands of his current club, URA FC, with whom he has one year left on his contract.

According to club sources, the 23-time Ghanaian champions were able to find an alternative solution by signing two strikers from the Cameroon Elite One League.

Kotoko’s arrival on a three-year contract will be announced soon.

Mfegue, who was born on June 8, 1997, in Douala, began his career at AS Estuaire from 2010 to 2014, where he was named the club’s top scorer twice in four seasons.

From 2015 to 2016, he was a member of the Douala Foot Académie (DFA), where he was named top scorer in the regional D2 with eight goals in ten games.

Mfegue joined Avion FC in 2017 when they were in the second division. Mfegue’s ability up front propelled Avion to Elite One promotion that year.

2018/19 season – Due to his consistent form, he was called up to the Indomitable Lions, a home-based team coached by Cameroon legend Rigobert Song.

Mfegue was named Avion FC’s captain for the 2019/20 season. During a difficult season for his team, he was named player of the month for November and had scored 8 goals before the Championship was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Georges Mfegue finished the recently concluded 2020/21 league season as the second top scorer with 10 goals, including the season’s first hat-trick against Dragon de Yaounde.

Mfegue scored 26 league goals and assisted on numerous occasions during his three seasons with Avion in Cameroon’s top flight.
