Sogakope: Four persons feared dead, two injured in accident
At least four persons are feared dead in a gory accident on the Adidome- Sogakope highway with two sustaining severe injuries.
A Pontiac vibe car with registration number, GE 5684-16 which was headed to Sogakope from Ho with two persons onboard on Friday morning was involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota Carena car with registration number GW 5171-Z which had five persons on board and was from Keta and headed for Ho.
The two injured persons have been rushed to the Sogakope Hospital for treatment while personnel from the Ghana Fire Service work to retrieve the bodies of the deceased from the mangled vehicles.
Dennis Kpoha, an eyewitness who narrated the incident to the media said the two vehicles were over speeding.
“We were on our way to Ho. We heard the information that a sack on top of one of the cars fell. So the driver of that car was attempting to stop and pick the sack from there to prevent other drivers from hitting it. But things happened like this because the cars were speeding,” he said.
A report the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of Ghana Police Service showed that efforts stakeholders to reduce the increasing carnage on the roads have started showing positive results as the number of commuters killed in road traffic accidents between January and September 2019 have dropped 7.6%.
The deaths reduced from 1,710 between January and September in 2018 to 1,580 during the same period this year.
