V/R: Beauty queen Enam launches campaign against teenage pregnancy

A 27-year-old Anita Bossoh, of the 2019 Ghana’s Most Beautiful, has launched a campaign against teenage pregnancy in the country.

The Volta regional representative, who is known as Enam in the reality show, launched the Enam Foundation in Ho on Friday, February 7, 2020, to tackle a canker she considers a ‘passionate project’, that tells the story of her personal life experiences.

Speaking at the launch, Enam noted that teenage pregnancy has become one of the most prevalent social problems that hinders the growth and development of the girl child; many of whom have greater aspirations.

“Today, one of the biggest social problems facing the growth and development of the girl child is teenage pregnancy. But I want to embark on a journey that would empower the young girl out there and to inspire them to see life beyond teenage pregnancy. I want the girl child to know that pregnancy can not be the end of life”, she

She added that “while educating these teenagers on the causes, effects and the preventive measures of the menace, I want to encourage them to go back to school even after delivery – that’s the focus of my campaign”.

Mr. Benedictus Amedume, the manager of Enam told the media that the choice of a campaign against teenage pregnancy is as a result of the fact that Enam herself was born at a time the mother was just 16years old.

He stated further that, “Enam through her teenage periods went from being a salesgirl to being a maidservant just to survive, because there was no one at home to help and so, for her to have guarded herself through these periods to the highest level of education, she is the right person to inspire these young ones”.

Speaking on the theme: “Teenage pregnancy a threat to sustainable economic development”, Prof. John Owusu Gyapong, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences called on stakeholders to come on board to support the campaign in order to make realistic gains.

He stressed that the health risks associated with teenage pregnancy are so high; thus entreated school children at the event, to shy away from engaging in activities that endangers their lives.

Though the campaign would be a nationwide project, the focus would be on the Volta and Central regions.
