Former Executive Secretary to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Superintendent Peter Lanchene Tuubo has justified his decision to join politics.

The astute former police officer who is vying for the Wa West constituency seat on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) said his decision is borne out of passion to contribute to the human and socio-economic development in the area.

He noted that, “the people of Wa West since 2010 has been impressing upon me to come and contest and because of the work I do as a police officer, I was really not interested but the pressure mounted and mounted and I think the most beautify thing to do is to respond to the call of the people who took care of you when you were going up”.

On why he retired voluntarily from the service, Supt Tuubo said it is not possible to combine policing and politics.

“I have said that politicising police is a very bad thing in a democracy” the outspoken ex-police officer opined.

He will face stiff competition from the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon Joseph Yiele Chireh.

Supt Peter Lanchene Tuubo is remembered for his infamous video on corruption within the police service which went viral on various social media.
